What is cosplay?
Cosplay, which is short for costume play, is the fine art of dressing up as a character from an anime (Japanese animation) series/movie or a CG game and parading around at anime conventions. It’s an addictive hobby and an enormous amount of fun. It can also be damaging to your mental and financial health, as some cosplayers tend to find themselves getting distinctly obsessed with sparing no expense to make the minutest details of their costumes absolutely perfect. Fortunately for us, we don't know anyone like that. *cough*
How did you get interested in cosplay?
We caught the cosplay bug mostly from seeing how much fun other people seemed to be having while doing it. We decided to give it a try ourselves, and before we knew it, WHAM!…we were addicted. Don’t worry, we can stop anytime we want.
How do you choose what costumes to make?
We choose to make and wear outfits of characters we like. Most of us have some sort of affinity for the characters we dress as, such as similar personalities, a slight physical resemblance, etc. Or we could just think they’re cool. At any rate, we all think it’s important to choose characters we enjoy. It makes both the aggravation of constructing the costumes worth it in the long run, and it makes wearing of the finished product more fun too!
Who makes your costumes?
Sha, being the artsy one of the group, does a good portion of the work on her outfits herself, with some help from her mom with the sewing tasks. Each of the rest of us has an ace-in-the-hole costumer who helps us construct these getups. Kris’ is her mom, who is both a patient seamstress and open minded about her grown daughter’s funny little dress-up obsession. Shell’s is her mother-in-law, who pretty much shares Kris’ mom’s viewpoint. Stacey’s in her husband Tony, whose Boy Scout merit badge in sewing and ability to find a way to construct accessories out of bizarre materials have come in very handy with respect to costume construction.
Can you make me a costume?
Between maintaining our day-to-day lives, our respective websites, and working on our own outfits, we all stay pretty busy, so unfortunately, the answer here has to be no. However, if there’s some aspect of a costume you think we can help you with, as far as advice on construction or whatnot, feel free to email us and ask. We’ll help if we can.
Didn't you used to have more people in your group?
Yes, we did, but we’ve lost contact with the other people who used to be listed on this site. Since they haven’t chosen to remain part of the group, we didn’t see any point to continue to feature their old galleries, and we can’t feature their future plans since we don’t know if they cosplay anymore.
Can I join your group?
Well, we’re not an anime or cosplay club per se. We don’t have memberships or anything like that. We’re just a group of friends who happen to share the same goofy hobby.
Hey! That's a picture of me in your gallery!
And it’s there because you had a kickass costume. ^_^
Seriously, all the photos in our gallery were taken by one of us at one of the various cons we’ve attended. If you’re uncomfortable with being displayed on our site, just let us know and we’ll take your photo down. On the other hand, if you’re as proud of your handiwork as you should be, and you’d like your name listed or a link to your own site provided, we can take care of that too. Just give us your info and we’ll put it up ASAP.
What cons do you enjoy going to the most?
Well, we’re all pretty die-hard about Otakon, which is enormous and has tons of fun stuff to see, do, and buy (cha-ching!). We’ve also enjoyed Katsucon enormously. It’s smaller than Otakon, but still packed with goodness. Really, though, as long as you’re prepared to have a good time, any con, big or small, is worth going to.
